— I’m Cecily. And I’m so happy you’re here!
Photography, to me, is an embodiment of how I move through life. I believe that there is a certain courage to living with intention that is beautiful, and that it is this intentionality that creates something really special in a photo.
I first fell in love with photography while I was living abroad in Parma, Italy. I spent the semester traveling throughout Europe, and I brought my camera with me everywhere. I realized, through this experience, how powerful photography could be. Traveling with my camera allowed me to capture what I experienced in a new way — to give form not only to a moment itself, but also to the emotion behind it. A few years later, I returned to Italy to attend culinary school. I lived in Firenze - perfecting knife skills, and how to make fresh pasta, and the art behind the perfect risotto - but I found myself spending all of my time outside the kitchen exploring with my camera. Experiencing everything through the lens of my camera allowed me to connect with the world in a profoundly different way than I ever had before.
When I returned to the States after culinary school, I held onto that inspiration, pouring as much of myself and my energy into life as possible. I spent several years cooking professionally, and on my days off, I staged in a local butcher shop and helped with a wine harvest. I traveled, as often as I could. I ran marathons. I changed my career path, and then changed it again. I surrounded myself with people that allowed me to be myself but that also inspired me to be better. I uprooted and rerooted my life to different cities all over the country. I loved, deeply.
And throughout it all, I created photographs.
I've learned, from all of these experiences, that there is a certain magic that happens when you commit to show up in your own life as authentically as you are able. There is something powerful in this, something profound that comes from connecting deeply with the world around you. For me, creating photographs is about all of this. It's about noticing the details in the big moments, and capturing the expansive joy often overlooked in the smaller ones. It's about finding a way to tell a story as intentionally as possible. And perhaps more than anything, it’s about bearing witness to and honoring all of the poetry in life, even in its most ordinary moments. Because I think this - in both life and art - is where the absolute magic happens.
I would love to be a part of your story! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, or just to say hello. You can read a little more about me here.
